Thiers Issard knives are manufactured in France since 1884
Thiers-Issard was founded in 1884 by Pierre Thiers (1860–1929) a skilled blacksmith with a great reputation in the manufacture of magnificent pocket knives.
After Pierre's death, his son Pierre Thiers (1884-1962) would take over the company helped by his brother Louis.
The factory remained in the hands of the family until 1985, when Philippe Thiers sold it to Gilles Reynewaeter.
Gilles Reynewaeter was responsible not only for perpetuating the tradition, he also expanded the offer with new materials, ivory, horn, bone, wood from around the world, Damascus steel, even turtle shell, until then reserved for nobles and kings. Turning Thiers Issard into what it is today, a world reference.
Thiers Issard currently offers a range of knives (available only on request) of a quality and simply exceptional finishes, raising the level of artisan work to true art.

CARBON STEEL IS NOT STAINLESS
A carbon steel knife is a precision tool, in situations and humidity environments without proper maintenance, it can quickly show rust.
Please, if you have any questions about its maintenance we will be happy to help you.
With simple and adequate care it will fulfill its function for many, many years.
* The best way to conserve carbon steel is to use it daily, clean it with warm water, dry it very well with a soft cloth or towel after each use and keep it away from humid environments.
If the knife is not going to be used for a while, we will keep it outside its cover (never in the bathroom) treated with a product that protects the blade from oxidation and stains such as petroleum jelly, preferably not water based .
** Amourette or Snake Wood (Piratinera guianensis)
It is an extremely resistant, hard, dense and fine-grained wood. Its spectacular veining reminds of the skin of a snake.
Photography is indicative (http://www.thiers-issard.fr/fr/). Each knife made of Snake Wood is unique and unrepeatable.
